AGING WITH GRACE

According to U.S. federal guidelines, senior citizen status typically begins at age 65. Senior citizen centers in the USA play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for older adults. These centers offer a range of services and activities that cater to the diverse needs of seniors, promoting social interaction, health, and well-being. Recognized by the Older Americans Act as a community focal point, senior centers are one of the most widely used services among America’s older adults. According to the National Council on Aging, more than 11,000 senior centers serve more than 1 million people every day.

“Aging With Grace” highlights Canton Woods Senior Center, which provides social interaction, healthcare and recreational opportunities for older Baldwinsville residents. This project also highlights the participants' different social perspectives and the potential social isolation for those unable to participate or be a member of such a center. According to a 2020 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report, socially isolated seniors face a 50% higher risk of dementia and a 29% increased risk of heart disease, underlining the importance of accessible senior centers in community health.
